Law Enforcement Guidelines

How to request account records from Map & Mingle, what we hold, and what legal process each kind of record requires.

Last updated: September 2, 2026.

Who we are and where to send requests

Map & Mingle is operated by Roger Grubb, doing business as Map & Mingle, in San Pablo, California, United States. Law enforcement requests go to safety@mapandmingle.com with "Law enforcement request" in the subject line, from an official government email domain. We accept service of legal process by email at that address and respond to valid requests within ten business days.

What we hold

Account records (email, display name, date of birth as given, creation date, signup IP); profile (photos, bio, interests, verification decision; the verification video itself is deleted at review); approximate location snapped to a grid roughly 500 feet wide, with no movement history; messages until deleted or purged; safety records, which are append-only; and the fact and amount of purchases. Card and billing details are held by our payment processor, Stripe, never by us.

Retention

A deleted account is hidden immediately and erased 30 days later. Safety records survive deletion. Verification videos are deleted at review. Send a preservation request without delay if records may fall inside that window.

What legal process we require

Basic subscriber information: a valid subpoena. Records other than content: a court order under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(d). Content (message text, photos, media): a search warrant. Requests from outside the United States: a mutual legal assistance treaty or letters rogatory, unless an emergency applies. Every request must identify the account, the records sought, the date range, the legal basis, and the requesting officer's agency and official contact.

Preservation requests

Under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(f) we preserve an identified account's records for 90 days, renewable once, pending legal process.

Emergency disclosure

Where disclosure is needed in good faith to prevent imminent death or serious physical injury (18 U.S.C. § 2702(b)(8)), email safety@mapandmingle.com with "EMERGENCY" as the first word of the subject. Emergency requests are read first.

Child safety and trafficking

Apparent child sexual abuse material is reported to NCMEC's CyberTipline under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A and preserved for 90 days. Sexual exploitation, commercial sexual activity and human trafficking are prohibited without exception; we ban on the first confirmed instance, preserve the records, and cooperate with investigations.

Notice to members

We tell a member when their records have been requested unless the law prohibits it, the request is an emergency, or notice would risk harm to a person or to a child-exploitation or trafficking investigation.

Testimony and costs

Records are produced with a certification of authenticity on request. We may seek reimbursement of reasonable costs, except in emergencies and child-safety matters.
